The government has launched many citizen-centric services on the digital platform. These services are mainly aimed at promoting digital transactions and to help increase the usage of Aadhaar-based services in the country. One such service is the Unified Mobile Application (UMANG) app.
This app by the government of India was launched with the objective of putting many of the government services like Aadhaar and Digilocker (what is it?) on a single platform/application. You can access more than 180 government services on this app from 37 departments and six states (so far).
UMANG provides an integrated digital platform for government services such as Employee Provident Fund (EPF), Kisan Suvidha, Pharma Sahi Dham, Passport Seva, Bharat BillPay, Aadhaar, Income Tax Return filing, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, PAN, Digilocker facility, National Pension Scheme (NPS), gas booking and many other services.
The UMANG app helps you connect to the customer support department of any central or state government service on the app in case you have any grievance. How can you access this? You have to use the live chat option. Since your documents are stored in the Digilocker, providing documentation for government services is very easy.
One of the most important services that UMANG provides for salaried individuals is the EPF service. You can use the UMANG app to check the balance in your EPF account. You can even use the UMANG app to withdraw money from your EPF. You can also track the status of the withdrawal request using the app. You will need your Universal Account Number (UAN) for this service. The best part? You can use the UMANG app to link your EPF account to your Aadhaar. Here are the steps.
Install the UMANG app on your smartphone. Visit this site – https://web.umang.gov.in/web/#/ to download the app on your Android or Apple smartphone. It is also available in the Windows store. Once you have downloaded the app, you need to register on the app. You can use your mobile number or Aadhaar for this.
Once you register and log in, you will see many government services listed. You have to click on the EPFO link. This is like an app within an app. This EPFO app within the UMANG app will have all services related to EPFO.
There are four services offered by the EPFO app. These are ‘Employee Centric Services’, ‘Employer Centric Services’, ‘General Services’, and ‘eKYC Services’. If you want to link your Aadhaar to your EPF, you have to link on eKYC Services link.
Under eKYC Services, click on ‘Aadhaar Seeding’. Your UAN will be required to link your Aadhaar to your EPF account.
You will be asked to enter your UAN and a One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile number. This is the mobile number that you gave to the EPFO. Enter the OTP that you get.
Enter the Aadhaar number and other details. On successful OTP verification, your Aadhaar will get linked to your UAN/EPF account.
You can also use the EPFO website to link your Aadhaar to your EPF account (https://iwu.epfindia.gov.in/eKYC/LinkUanAadhaar). For withdrawing money from your EPF account, your Aadhaar has to be linked to your account.
