Earlier deadline was September 30, 2019. We also explain how you can link PAN and Aadhaar
The last date to link PAN and Aadhaar has been revised to December 31, 2019. This gives you more than three months to do it. The earlier deadline was September 30.
Failing to link your PAN card with the Aadhaar card might render it ‘inoperative’. Once the PAN card becomes inoperative, you will not be able to undertake transactions that require PAN card.
” In the said notification : –
(i) in paragraph 1, 30th September, 2019 shall be substituted by 31 st December, 2019;
(ii) in paragraph 3, 30.09.2019 shall be substituted by 31st December, 2019,” a Ministry of Finance circular said.
The deadline for linking the PAN card and Aadhaar card had been extended several times in the past.
If the assessee does not hold an Aadhaar number, then PAN would not be considered invalid. However, if an assessee holds an Aadhaar number, it should be intimated to the Department.
The Income Tax Department provides two services to assist assessees in the process of linking the two identification numbers: an SMS-based facility, and an online tool provided on its e-filing portal (incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in).
In the SMS service, one can SMS 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number in the format: UIDPAN SPACE 12 digit Aadhaar Space 10 digit PAN
Example: UIDPAN 123456789123 ABCDE1234M
Step 1: Visit the Income Tax Department e-filing portal. Find the option of PAN-Aadhaar linking.
Step 2: Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number.
Step 3: Fill your name in the ‘Name as per AADHAAR’ category
Step 4: Mark ‘I have the only year of birth in Aadhar card,’ if you have only the birth year on the Aadhaar
Step 5: Mark ‘I agree to validate my Aadhar details with UIDAI,’ if you agree to do so
Step 6: Enter the captcha code on your screen.
Step 7: Click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ option to request linking of PAN and Aadhaar
You can also check the status of the PAN-Aadhaar linking on the Income Tax Department’s website.
