Aditya Birla Mutual Fund cuts minimum investment for key schemesAditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund (ABSLMF) has reduced the minimum investment amount for Aditya Birla Sun Life Frontline Equity, Balanced 95, Cash Manager, MIP II Wealth 25 Plan and Aditya Birla Equity Fund from Rs 1,000 to Rs 500. This makes the entry point for these schemes one of the lowest in the industry.

Most equity schemes set Rs 5,000 as the minimum investment amount although this varies significantly between fund houses and schemes. The change will be effective from 9th May 2018. It is interesting to note that Rs 500 is also the minimum required for small savings schemes such as the PPF.

You can find the minimum investment required for various types assets below.

Investment Minimum Amount
Mutual Funds Usually 500 to 5000
PPF Rs 500 per annum
NPS Rs 1,000 per annum
Fixed Deposits Varies. Rs 5,000 for HDFC, Rs 10,000 for ICICI
National Savings Certificate Rs 100
Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Rs 1000

Unlike with PPF/NPS/Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, a mutual fund investment does not need a regular contribution to keep it active. Investing one-time or for just a few years will not render your account inoperative.
